Works under the direction of the Circulation Supervisor performing all functions of the circulation unit. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Assists the public in making full use of library materials and services. Performs duties of the materials loan and return operations; opens and maintains accounts; collects and accounts for fees; records transactions. Operates and troubleshoots the library automated circulation and catalog systems. Generates reports of overdue books, reserves and statistical reports for monthly and yearly reports to various agencies. Manages delinquent material fees operations dealing with complaints and problems. Understands and explains Library and City policies to patrons. Responds to requests for information using books, Internet, databases and community resources. Provides account information and explains pertinent Library policies and procedures to the public. Performs administrative and clerical support tasks such as receiving and distributing telephone calls, writing reports, sorting materials and filing when needed. Supervises volunteers in tasks related to assignment when needed. Performs other job-related duties consistent with assigned division responsibilities. May perform other assignments and handle special projects as required. Minimum Qualifications: H.S. Diploma or GED. Two (2) years of experience working in customer service. Library experience is preferred. Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of Library policies and Ordinances within the City. Knowledge of city practice, policy and procedures. Knowledge of operating the following programs - MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patrons, the general public, supervisors, and employees. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance. Ability to use independent judgment and provide good customer service when explaining policies to the public. Ability to push large book trucks and carts filled with Library material or equipment. Skill in oral and written communication. Skill in using the Internet for research. Skill in providing exceptional customer service in person, by email and by telephone.
